Description
As a 2023 Changing Climate Artist in Residence, Alija designed speculative prototypes using holograms, olfactory arts, charcoal, and fiction to bring to life future tools for climate migrants forcibly displaced by natural disasters, geopolitical upheaval, and colonization.
01
Building on their participatory research on climate migrations with frontline communities, Alija developed artefacts of the alternative futures of climate transitions and migrations.
02
Engaging their lived experiences with climate migration in Puerto Rico and Florida, Alija draws upon Black Caribbean diaspora traditions of forecasting to guide their practice.
03
Their trans-disciplinary installation was exhibited in the galleries of the Santa Fe Art Institute in October 2023 alongside an artist talk with Bill McKibben, Founder of 360.org.
